When a Finish Needs Camera Review: Planning the ST-1000
Two competitors reach the finish close enough that a displayed time cannot explain the order on its own. The event team needs a record of the crossing, a named reviewer and a rule for confirming the result. That is the planning problem behind finish-line camera review.

First question: what must the camera confirm?

Second question: can the finish line be seen clearly?
The review image is only useful when the camera view and physical finish line agree. Survey the finish from the proposed mounting position. Check barriers, officials, vehicles, shadows, cables and spectator areas that may block the view or create a safety problem.
Mark the camera location and protect it from movement. Then record the line reference used during setup. A later reviewer should be able to understand where the finish lies in the captured image without relying on memory.

Third question: how will capture and timing relate?
Camera timing is more than ordinary video aimed at a race. A sports timing camera can create time-stamped finish evidence tied to a timing workflow. The exact capture method varies by system. Fourth question: what happens after a close finish?
Review sequence
Freeze result publication when the finish needs review. Find the correct event and image, apply the governing crossing rule, record the decision and release the confirmed result through the designated official.
Do not crop or rename the only source file during the first review. Preserve the original capture and create a working copy when annotations are needed. Link the image, timing result and decision note with the same event ID.

Fifth question: what is the fallback?
Plan for loss of power, a blocked view, an operator error or a missing file. The fallback may be another approved system, a backup capture or an event-specific manual process. Its suitability depends on the governing rules, so document it before the first start.
Run a rehearsal with a participant crossing the line. Confirm that the operator can identify the event, find the image, review it and store it under the agreed name. A capture that nobody can retrieve is not useful evidence.
Decision: gate timing or camera review?
A training session that only needs repeatable elapsed times may be well served by a sensor-based setup. An event that must confirm close finish order or retain visual evidence has a different requirement.
